How to Enable Occupancy Analytics for Non-Reservable Office Space 5 Space utilization sensors Network tracking solutions Space utilization sensors come in a range of forms, including internet of things (IoT) devices like desk sensors, light detection and ranging (LiDaR) strips, blurred vision cameras, and infrared sensors. Some of these only provide coverage for an individual workstation, while others can provide coverage for entire rooms or floors. Ideally, you'll use some combination of sensors to have complete coverage of your workplace and to ensure that you can monitor where people are in a given space—not to track individuals, but to monitor your occupancy. For example, while a badge scan might show you how many people are in the building, the right combination of occupancy sensors can show you exactly where those bodies are. This allows you to identify congestion, rooms where you're typically at capacity, and parts of the building where you can increase density by reassigning space, reallocating it, or adding more employees. Network tracking solutions like Tango Occupancy use employees' authenticated Wi-Fi and ethernet connections to determine their anonymized general location. Instead of installing sensors all throughout your facilities, you simply integrate the software with your network. Both of these approaches significantly improve your occupancy analytics capabilities on their own. But they can also be combined for a robust view of utilization, with network tracking providing widespread background data and specific, area- dependent sensor implementation meeting more specific tracking needs with greater data granularity. As a comprehensive space management solution, Tango Space integrates with all your occupancy monitoring tech—including Tango Reserve, of course—and brings your data into one place. So when you build out your space inventory and identify all the spaces in your workplace, you can also track each one's specific utilization over time, making it easy to find patterns and opportunities. You can also see how various departments have utilized the space they have, or filter by space type, size, etc. So if you need a certain amount of space for a new amenity or team, you can identify the most underutilized space that meets your needs. In addition to intuitive dashboards, Tango Space lets you apply your spatial data to a floor plan, giving you a live view of your current occupancy. Administrators can use this to help reduce congestion and direct employees to less-occupied spaces. If you've added Tango Occupancy to your occupancy analytics solution, you can also display a live overview of your building's occupancy to help employees and guests find available space independently. If you want to optimize your office space, you need visibility into the utilization of your entire office. Just because a space is nonreservable, doesn't mean you can't monitor and manage its use. Modern solutions to space utilization monitoring Today's office spaces, particularly hybrid workplaces, need more specialized tech for monitoring space utilization, or else they won't have an accurate picture of how the workplace is being used and where there are opportunities for improvement. There are two main paths to getting more comprehensive occupancy analytics: space utilization sensors and Wi-Fi tracking.
