Sensorless occupancy monitoring
solutions can provide the baseline level of
information companies need to make
space management decisions without
installing and maintaining new hardware.
And that's likely where the future of
occupancy analytics is heading.
"I wouldn't want to be in a sensor company
right now," Leibowitz says. "People are
going to buy and use them, but is it worth
10x the cost of using wifi to get that extra
accuracy? I don't think so."
But it's not an all-or-nothing choice. At
times, companies will need the level of
detail only sensors can provide so they can

2025 Workplace Predictions: Prediction #7
"Occupancy measurement in 2025
will be based on a mix of sources, with
each designed for specific needs,"
Stève Cattin says. "I don't think we'll
see an increase of the percentage of
sensors within that mix, but rather a
rebalancing between different
technologies."

make "smaller decisions" about individual
rooms and spaces. They may use sensors
to monitor specific parts of an office while
using alternative solutions to monitor
whole buildings or networks.
