Whether these spaces are workstations or not, you need to know how many people use them and how often, to understand if you've dedicated enough space to them. For that, you'll need one of two things (and ideally both): Sensors that can monitor a broad area 1. A sensorless solution that tracks network connections 2. Many organizations use IoT sensors like Light Detection and Ranging (LiDaR) strips and blurred vision cameras to monitor large spaces. These solutions can detect bodies and track movement throughout a space, helping you monitor how many people use it and for how long. Sensorless occupancy monitoring technology like Tango Occupancy provides another solution that's less precise but far easier to implement. This hardware-free option integrates with your internal network and monitors authenticated connections. When an occupant connects via Wi-Fi, Tango Occupancy triangulates their position using the signal strength of nearby Wi- Fi access points. When they connect via ethernet, it estimates their location based on the port. Since every user has to sign in to use your network, this solution counts users, not devices. So if someone connects with their phone and computer, for example, it still only counts as one occupant. While you can use these two solutions independently, they work even better in tandem. Sensors are a great supplement to a sensorless solution when you have particular spaces that require more precision. Since sensorless solutions use someone's general location, sensors are more ideal for smaller defined areas that are close together—like if several meeting rooms are located right next to one another.
