CHP Combined heat and power, also known as cogeneration, is the concurrent production of electricity or mechanical power and thermal energy (heating and/or cooling) from one energy source. Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) This United Nations program allows industrialized countries to finance greenhouse gas emissions-reducing projects in developing countries and receive credit for those reductions as part of their own emissions reduction efforts. Climate change Climate change refers to a change in the state of the climate that can be identified and that persists for an extended period, usually decades or longer. Climate change may be due to natural internal processes or external forcings such as solar cycles or volcanic eruptions, or it may be due to human actions such as burning coal, driving cars, and other industrial practices. Climate change commitment The unavoidable future climate change resulting from inertia in geophysical and socio-economic systems. There are several different types of climate change commitment, as discussed below. Climate change commitment is often expressed in terms of the further change in temperature, but it can also include other future changes such as extreme weather events, extreme climate events, and changes in sea level.
