The Copenhagen Agreement, which called for a complete phase out by January 1, 1996, was implemented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. N Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) A term used under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) whereby a country that has joined the Paris Agreement outlines its plans for reducing its emissions. Some countries' NDCs also address how they will adapt to climate change impacts, and what support they need from, or will provide to, other countries to adopt low-carbon pathways and to build climate resilience. Negative emissions Removal of greenhouse gasses (GHGs) from the atmosphere via deliberate activities, in addition to the removal that occurs via natural processes. Also see Greenhouse gas removal (GGR). NERC The North American Electric Reliability Corporation. NERC develops and enforces reliability standards; annually assesses seasonal and longā€term reliability; monitors the bulk power system through system awareness, and more. Net negative emissions Net negative emissions are achieved when, as result of human activities, more greenhouse gasses are removed from the atmosphere than are emitted into it. Net zero CO2 emissions Net zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are achieved when CO2 emissions are balanced globally by CO2 removals over a certain period. Net zero CO2 emissions may also be referred to as carbon neutrality.
