The Rise of the Hybrid Workplace: Strategic Opportunities for the Post-Pandemic Office
5
Hoteling
Hoteling is simply providing employees with short-term
access to office space. While it's been used for years to
reserve meeting rooms and shared office spaces, hoteling
has emerged as one of the key components of a hybrid
workplace by letting employees reserve workstations on the
days they plan to come into the office.
Instead of having static workstations that employees feel
ownership over, employees simply select f rom a pool of
available workstations each day they intend to come in, and
it may or may not be the same every time.
Social distancing made hoteling crucial because suddenly,
companies had far more employees than workstations.
Maintaining a six-foot radius meant reducing the number of
workstations per room. Hoteling allows companies to have
greater flexibility with the space they have, and with fewer
employees coming into the office, it can also mean they
don't need as much real estate in the future.
Hoteling isn't an all-or-nothing system. Most companies only
dedicate a small percentage of their office space to hoteling,
but over the course of the pandemic, that percentage grew.
