The Rise of the Hybrid Workplace: Strategic Opportunities for the Post-Pandemic Office
10
Most people don't want their lives to revolve around where
they work. They want where (and when) they work to revolve
around their lives. The more flexibility your hybrid workplace
offers, the closer people can get to that ideal work-life
balance.
Not long ago, companies attracted the best talent by having
the best campus. The more ping pong tables, employee
lounges, and amenities you could offer, the better. People
expected to spend a lot of time on campus, so they wanted
to know that it would be a place they could enjoy. But for
some people, the ideal work environment is the one they
create themselves.
Remote work doesn't appeal to everyone. But when working
for your organization doesn't require someone to live
near one of your locations, or they only have to travel to a
company campus occasionally, that can make your position
a lot more attractive. People don't have to uproot their lives
to make a career change. And that's especially important for
prospective employees who have kids, partners with careers
of their own, and family or other meaningful communities
where they live.
It's also valuable if your campuses are located in cities where
the cost of living is high. Hybrid workplaces allow people
to earn competitive salaries while living in more affordable
locations.
As hybrid workplaces continue to normalize, talented people
will expect high-quality companies to compete on flexibility.
