In the early months of the pandemic, REI sold their brand-new headquarters to pivot to a more distributed, hybrid workplace. Twitter announced that they'd be fully remote forever. Other organizations of all shapes and sizes have made similar decisions—and are enjoying the savings. In fact, overall office leasing is expected to stay below pre- COVID levels until at least 2025. Not every organization is in a position to make significant changes to its real estate portfolio, but with strategic planning, you can reduce the amount of space your locations need by embracing a hybrid model. You don't have to go all-in on working f rom home. But depending on what you do and what work looks like for your employees, you may be able to maintain the same level of production with a f raction of the square footage.
