Floor Plan 2.0: Discovering Your Future Office
9
Creating the office of the future
Planning the return to work was largely speculative,
making predictions based on extremely limited data and
very recent employee behavior. The return itself is largely a
learning period, experimenting with new uses of space and
examining how your employees navigate the office in light of
COVID and the normalization of virtual work environments.
The floor plan of the future will reflect what your organization
has learned, what your new data-driven space optimization
goals are, and what your post-COVID work culture is like.
Generally, we know that most companies will either need
less space, or use the same amount of space in new ways.
Traditional office spaces will be turned into non-traditional
ones. A larger share of the floor plan will likely be dedicated
to collaboration, and in some cases, the "sea of desks" may be
reduced to tide pools.
JLL predicts post-COVID businesses will double the space
allocated to collaboration and cut in half the square footage
they'd previously dedicated to individual spaces.
