The Post-COVID Consumer: The Future of Brick and Mortar Stores
12
This behavior, of course, keeps consumers coming back to
the website or brick and mortar store more f requently. Often,
even when customers don't move fast enough to secure the
product they want, stock alerts essentially trigger a shopping
trip.
Even now, retailers and brands don't have the supply chain
challenges that led to widespread shortages and the
popularization of stock alerts, but consumers have learned
that this is a valuable way to ensure they get the items they
want as they become available.
The urgency has waned, but post-COVID consumers will
expect businesses to provide simple, self-serve solutions
when products are out of stock. This is becoming more
and more of an essential feature. It prevents loss of sale at a
crucial time, and without it customers will turn to another
store or product because they have no idea when it will be
back in stock.
