This is often referred to as "beyond value chain mitigation" and can include: Financing innovation in carbon removal, energy storage, or clean construction tech Investing in local clean energy infrastructure or grid decarbonization Supporting regenerative land use, reforestation, or community resilience projects These actions don't count toward your core net zero target, but they enhance impact, hedge risk, and position your brand as a market leader. Drive Internal Alignment None of this happens without clear ownership. Net zero strategies that scale require coordination across sustainability, real estate, finance, procurement, and legal. That means: Assigning emissions ownership to teams and roles Integrating net zero into capital planning and risk assessment Linking executive compensation or internal KPIs to climate performance
