Floor Plan 2.0: Discovering Your Future Office
5
Some employees will be relieved to get back in the office,
where they feel most productive, most accessible and
best equipped to do their job. Some will be anxious about
whether you've taken enough precautions, implemented
the right protocols, and made crucial health and safety
improvements to the office.
Most of them won't tell you how they feel unless you ask. And
their concerns and comfort can change day-to-day. That's
why it's vital to proactively learn how they feel.
Hopefully, you surveyed your employees about their
preferences, concerns, health and productivity before you
planned and implemented the return to work. As employees
return, you should periodically collect this information again
and consistently evaluate how your employees feel about
being back in the office. You may even want to explore
how your decisions about space optimization impact their
general sentiments.
Are your employees comfortable with being in the office
now that some or all of them have returned? Do they feel like
you're doing enough to keep them safe and healthy?
Some of this is completely outside of your control. As
new strains of COVID emerge, local outbreaks occur,
discoveries are made, and vaccines get distributed, that's
going to impact your overall employee wellness regardless
of what steps you take. But it will be important to make
your employees feel heard and cared for, and to respond
appropriately to their concerns.
